Based on the amount of additional time required for a second title-fight on top of the bantamweight contest featuring Dominick Cruz-Urijah Faber, a bout between 185ers Michael Bisping and Tim Boetsch has apparently been removed from the July 7 lineup.

The card will still feature Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin 3 and Rich Franklin vs. Cung Le.

MMAJunkie, the first outlet to report the removal, also added UFC 149 on July 21 seems to be a likely choice in terms of where the match-up will take place.

Bisping (22-4) is looking to rebound from a close decision loss at the hands of Sonnen earlier this year, while Boetsch (15-4) scored the biggest win of his career by knocking out Yushin Okami in Japan this past February.

While there have certainly been some standard stoppages, the world has also witnessed night-ending efforts involving a variety of kicks, knees, and even elbows.

In honor of 2012’s fantastic finishes the UFC has put together a Top 5 Knockouts list with video to support their claims.

Taking the top spot was Edson Barboza’s brilliant Spinning Heel Kick KO of Terry Etim in January at UFC 142. Though the four fights preceding Barboza’s distinction are certainly notable, none compare to the Brazilian’s beautiful blasting of the Brit.

Watch below, re-live some of the most memorable UFC moments from the past three months, and see if your favorite knockout made the cut:

Fortunately for “The Barbarian”, it appears his bosses and Bisping were listening and have obliged his request, booking the two for a bout on July 7 at UFC 148.

MMAWeekly was first to report the fight and UFC officials have since confirmed the pairing is in place.

Boestch has gone 3-0 since dropping down to 185 pounds, none of his wins bigger than the one he scored at UFC 144 after stopping Yushin Okami with strikes in the third round of a rumble he was clearly losing up until the finish. The victory improved his overall record to 15-4 with a nice balance of submissions/TKOs in the bunch.

The 22-4 Bisping wasn’t quite so lucky in his previous outing, falling to Chael Sonnen by way of Unanimous Decision in a closely contested bout many felt “The Count” had won. Prior to the loss the 33-year old had won four straight scraps including success against Dan Miller, Yoshihiro Akiyama, and Jason “Mayhem” Miller.

UFC 148 is scheduled to take place in Las Vegas and is expected to feature match-ups including Rich Franklin-Cung Le and Urijah Faber-Dominick Cruz.

The UFC announced the match-up earlier today through their website.

Okami is coming off a TKO loss to champion Anderson Silva, only the second time “Thunder” had been finished in more than thirty in-ring appearances. The 30-year old holds an overall record of 26-6 with a number of solid showings to his credit including victories over Alan Belcher, Nate Marquardt, and Mark Munoz.

Comparably, “The Barbarian” has won back-to-back bouts over Kendall Grove and Nick Ring after a decent run as a light heavyweight. Six of the 14-4 Boestch’s wins have involved a TKO with five others featuring a submission-based stoppage.

UFC 144 is set to be headlined by lightweight champion Frankie Edgar putting his gold up for grabs against Ben Henderson, while Yoshihiro Akiyama will also make his welterweight debut on the card against talented grappler Jake Shields.

According to the UFC, “The Barbarian” will face undefeated Nick Ring on September 24 when the organization stops in Denver for UFC 135.

Ring’s run on the Ultimate Fighter Season 11 was cut short by injury after making it to the quarterfinals, even beating eventual “last man standing” Court McGee by Majority Decision in an earlier round. He is 11-0 in his career with wins in the Octagon over Riki Fukuda and James Head.

A powerful wrestler with solid hands, Boetsch has finished eleven of the opponents he’s beaten with five submissions and six TKOs including a memorable ragdolling of David Heath a few years ago at UFC 81. The 13-4 competitor has also won five of his last six fights with a trio of stoppages in the bunch.

The two middleweights join a card already featuring 205er Jon Jones’ title-defense against former champ Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in the main event, as well as UFC icon Matt Hughes taking on well-rounded welterweight contender Diego Sanchez and Japanese slugger Takanori Gomi against polarizing pugilist Nate Diaz.

The spider is a fascinating creature for many reasons, one being an ability to maneuver gracefully through a web latching on to any others who are unfortunate enough to encounter it. It appears Kendall Grove will now have a chance to prove the same is true when it comes to “Da Spyder” avoiding the trappings of a sticky situation, as he will attempt to avoid potentially becoming the latest Ultimate Fighter champion chopped from the roster when he tangles with Tim Boetsch over Memorial Day Weekend at UFC 130 in Las Vegas.

Their addition to the card was confirmed by the UFC along with seven other fights set for May 28 including a headlining clash between lightweight title-holder Frank Edgar and Gray Maynard.

Grove is coming off an outpointing to Demian Maia after starting out his post-TUF career off with three straight wins, then going 4-4 over his last eight fights. Also notable is the fact two of those victories came as the result of a Split Decision. The lanky middleweight holds an overall record of 12-8 with past success in the ring against Evan Tanner, Jake Rosholt, Ed Herman, and Alan Belcher.

The bout is also an important one for Boetsch who fell by way of submission to Phil Davis at UFC 123 in November and will making his debut at 185 pounds against Grove. The loss was the first for “The Barbarian” in more than eighteen months, a decision defeat to Jason Brilz at UFC 96 resulting in his release from the promotion before going on to rack up a trio of wins outside of the Octagon and ultimately finding success against Todd Brown in his return to the famous eight-sided cage last August.

In addition to Grove vs. Boetsch, UFC 130 feature Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in action against Matt Hamill, Roy Nelson and Frank Mir settling their score, Brian Stann welcoming Jorge Santiago back to the UFC, and an important welterweight war where contendership is concerned between Rick Story and Thiago Alves.

In high school Boetsch was a four time state champion wrestler. That means that all four years of his time at Camden-Rockport High School in Maine, Boetsch won the state championship at a minimum of three different weights.

Now preparing to take on the always dangerous Aaron Stark at King of the Cage “Superstars” event this Saturday, we get to know a little more about a man we will surely see in the UFC or Strikeforce again.

FiveOuncesOfPain.com was able to catch up with “The Barbarian” just before his King of the Cage battle this evening to discuss Barbarian Buck Burgers, training your back muscles so you can body slam people, hunting and much more.

Five Ounces of Pain.com: Thanks for taking time out to speak with us Tim. Let’s jump into a little different line of questions than you are used to. What is your best “At an after fight party……” story?

Tim Boetsch: The Most interesting thing that has happened to me at an after fight party was after UFC 81. We were at a club in Mandalay Bay and I was invited to hang out at a private table with Mark Coleman where I ended up talking with him for about an hour and a half. One of the topics we discussed was how important it was to train the back muscles so you can body slam your opponents. I thought it was really cool to be sitting discussing training and fights and life with one of the legends of the sport. One of the guys who I used to watch when I could only dream about being a fighter.

Five Ounces of Pain.com: You are fighting Aaron Stark at the King of the Cage “Superstars” event this Saturday night. How has your training changed since leaving the UFC? Are you still training with Marcus Davis?

Tim Boetsch: The biggest change would have to be that I have an actual training camp to prep for my fight. Marcus has always been a great help. But I had never been able to train with him for extended periods of time. What time I did spend with Marcus was very educational and he definitely helped me get my start in MMA. I have not trained with Marcus for this fight. I trained at my gym in Sunbury, PA (Barbarian Combat Sports) for the first 3 weeks of the camp, and then flew out to Washington to finish out the camp at AMC with Matt Hume and his crew. I do check in at Team Irish when I make it back home to Maine though. I consider Marcus one of my closest friends in MMA.

Five Ounces of Pain.com: Many people may not be aware, but you are actually an accomplished hunter. What is your favorite thing to hunt? What is the largest thing you have killed?

Tim Boetsch: Well I like to hunt everything from small game to the biggest stuff wandering the woods of North America. I really enjoy hunting Whitetail deer with my Family in Maine even though they are very elusive and the overall population isn’t nearly as high as it is in PA. Last year I killed my first Elk in Colorado and that was quite an experience. I would have to rank that as one of my all time favorite hunts. I liked it so much I actually started managing the ranch out there in Colorado, so if anyone is interested in booking a hunt get in touch with me! We have an amazing amount of elk to pursue. And of course it is all fair chase (no fences).

Five Ounces of Pain.com: Word is you have several good Venison recipes. Care to share one with us?

Tim Boetsch: One of my personal favorites is Barbarian Buck Burgers. What you do is take a whole bunch of venison, mix in a bunch of French fried onions, bar-b-q sauce(your choice what kind) salt, pepper, and old-bay or pappy’s spicy seasonings, mix that all up make it into patties and throw them on the grill. I guarantee they will be some of the best deer burgers you ever have eaten. Top ‘em off with mushrooms, cheese, whatever you want, the sky is the limit!

Five Ounces of Pain.com: If you could go hunting with anyone, who would you chose, where would you go and what would you hunt?

Tim Boetsch: I would take my dad to my ranch in Colorado to smack an elk. He doesn’t like to travel though so it would be a hard sell.

Five Ounces of Pain.com: You took three of four of your fights in the UFC on short notice, finishing with a 2-2 record. Do you think losses taken on short notice should be considered “normal” losses?

Tim Boetsch: A loss is a loss. that L stays on your record the rest of your life. Don’t step up if you don’t think you can win.

Five Ounces of Pain.com: It’s been a busy two weeks in MMA. How do you view the Carano Vs. Cyborg match? Do you think women will ever be taken seriously in MMA?

Tim Boetsch: I take them seriously. I wouldn’t want to fight some of the women I have seen in gyms around. They get nasty! Throw down like they are fighting for their lives! I think Cyborg falls into the above mentioned category. I think she has more of the “killer instinct” then Carano. Carano seems to have a very good understanding of the sport and seems to have some good technique and the will to win so It should be an interesting fight.

Five Ounces of Pain.com: You have a degree in Criminal Justice and worked as a social worker for troubled youth. How are MMA and Social Work with youths the same?

Tim Boetsch: MMA and Social work are the same in that they are both very challenging mentally. MMA is better because if you get frustrated mentally you can punch your opponent in the face. *laughs*

Five Ounces of Pain.com: Tell me what goes through your head if a fighter refuses to touch gloves?

Tim Boetsch: “That was rude…..”

Five Ounces of Pain.com: What would you consider a dream fight?

Tim Boetsch: Any fight where I was paid a million bucks just to make weight. *laughs*

Five Ounces of Pain.com: What do you think the biggest misconception about you as a fighter is?

Tim Boetsch: That I am a striker. My foundation is in wrestling and that is where the majority of my knowledge lies. I like the striking game a lot and am most fascinated by it because it is new to me. I think when it (striking) is done well it is the most exciting part of the sport. I only started striking shortly after I had my first professional fight. I honestly could not throw a jab the first fight I had back in 2006.

Five Ounces of Pain.com: Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule. Is there anyone you would like to thank or give a shout out to?

Tim Boetsch: I want to thank my family for their support especially my wife who was willing to let me come to Washington and train for a month while she stayed home with our little wild man who is definitely a handful. I also want to thank all the fans for sticking behind me after getting dropped by the UFC. I will be back!

One of the more intriguing matchups that fans attending tonight’s UFC 96 event at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio will get to see that PPV fans won’t is a light heavyweight bout between Tim Boetsch and Jason Brilz.

A lot of people are on the Boetsch bandwagon and believe he’s going to smash Brilz. As much respect as I have for Boetsch, I’m not exactly sure the fight is going to go down that way.

Tim Boetsch (8-2) vs. Jason Brilz (16-1-1)

Boetsch is a true warrior having once competed twice in six days. After submitting Brendan Barrett with a guillotine choke on a regional show in Orange, New Jersey, Boetsch then traveled up the turnpike to the Meadowlands six days later for a last-minute matchup against former IFL Vladimir Matyushenko.

The Lock Haven University wrestling walk-on gained additional fans when he smashed David Heath in his UFC debut at UFC 81 last February. The bout wasn’t televised live but was such an impressive performance that UFC officials showed it on a tape-delay basis. Soon after, Boetsch received a contract extension.

Boetsch looked less than stellar in a second round TKO loss to Matt Hamill last April at UFC Fight Night 13 but he bounced back in September with a win over Mike Patt at UFC 88. His opponent, Jason Brilz, also fought and defeated Patt.

The win over common opponents is an indicator that this matchup wasn’t signed to give Boetsch an easy victory. Wth wins over current UFC fighter Jason MacDonald and former UFC fighters Brad Morris and Alex Schoenauer, Brilz has proven he’s a tough competitor.

Boetsch will have the wrestling advantage but Brilz has better submissions. The standup might be a wash, because while Boetsch has tremendous power, his Jeet Kune Do background doesn’t always translate well to MMA.

Prediction: In a matchup that is almost too close to call, the pick here is Brilz by split decision.

PRIDE veteran James Lee has reportedly pulled out of his UFC 88 fight vs. Tim Boetsch, according to MMAjunkie.com.

While the UFC has yet to make an official announcement, MMA Junkie indicated that Lee was scratched from the card last week after sustaining an arm injury.

A replacement also apparently already has been secured in former BodogFIGHT veteran Mike Patt. Patt is a UFC newcomer who likely earned a shot to debut for the promotion after having won seven of his past eight fights.

UFC 88 is scheduled to take place on Sept. 6 in Atlanta, GA at the Phillips Arena and will be headlined by a light heavyweight bout between former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell and the heavyweight winner from season two of “The Ultimate Fighter,” Rashad Evans.
