One of the biggest victories in Georges St.Pierre‘s decorated fighting career didn’t come easy for the UFC welterweight champion.

An already tough fight got a little bit tougher for GSP in the fourth round of his UFC 100 title defense against Thiago Alves as he unexpectedly tore something in his groin.

According to St.Pierre on his UFC 100 blog for Yardbarker.com, the pain was excruciating. Luckily for him, he had one of the best trainers in the business to go back to between rounds, and Greg Jackson had some Yoda-like words of wisdom that helped GSP to push through the pain.

“The fight is going well until the fourth round when I try an arm-bar from his back and something happened…I felt my right abductor cracking…something went wrong. I hear the noise of the ligament ripping. I end up in my guard and Thiago Alves landing big shot on me. I hold his head down, I wrap his arm, protect myself and I make a prayer in my head: “Please God, help me to get out of this situation, I work so hard to win this fight and give me the strength to keep going and fight well.” I found a way to stand up – I pushed my thighs and pushing in his hips and I stand back up, and even though I’m in a lot of pain I keep fighting.

“Round four, when I came back in my corner I told my trainer Greg Jackson that I pulled my groin. All of my trainers are very worried. Greg Jackson answers back to me, “I don’t care! This is how champions are made! Fight on it and hit him with your groin! I thought I was kind of funny (afterward) but it was not funny during the fight.”

Humorous or not, St.Pierre found the testicular fortitude between rounds to propel him onwards to victory.

Would something as petty as a grotesquely torn groin prevent the welterweight champ from partying like a rock star following his most recent title defense? Forget about it. GSP is a warrior in more ways than one.

“The next day I went at a pool party at Rehab with all my friends who came to support me. We had a booth (cabana) and it was great spot in the place. I drank so much that I forgot my whole name. It was very cool because at one time, Thiago Alves showed up with his entourage and came in my booth (cabana) and drinking with me and congratulate me for the fight. I thought he was a class act and that prove that he was a real professional athlete and a real good person and a gentleman. I really appreciated it, he’s a great fighter and also a great gentleman, and we had a good time drinking together. John Fitch showed up as well, and we celebrate together our victories.”

Over the last year, Dana White and the UFC spent countless hours and a tremendous amount of money to promote UFC 100 – which was billed as the most important night in Mixed Martial Arts history.

There were countdowns on both Yahoo! and Spike TV leading up to the event. Even ESPN – which had previously given MMA very little coverage in the past – spent all week leading up to UFC 100 promoting the spectacle.

I had waited months to see UFC 100. Yet when it was over I turned to the room full of people I was watching it with and asked, “That was it?”

UFC 100 was no different than any other UFC pay-per-view event. It was a few fights, they showed me Turkish from the movie Snatch sitting in the crowd and then I was given the disturbing mental image of Brock Lesnar mounting his wife.

For a normal UFC card, I would say this was pretty good but this wasn’t supposed to be a normal pay-per-view event. This was supposed to be the biggest night ever in the sport. It was supposed to be the Super Bowl of MMA.

If that’s the case – and it was the case – then White and the UFC badly missed their mark Saturday night.

When I tuned into this card, I didn’t have the same feeling as all the others. I had a knot in my stomach, like I do when I watch the Super Bowl or the College Football National Championship Game. This was supposed to be special. I thought in a lot of ways we were celebrating the sport and giving thanks to some of the guys who helped get it to UFC 100.

Where was Chuck Liddell? Where was Matt Hughes? Where was Tito Ortiz? OK, the last one was a joke. What a mean though, how about a video recap of the previous UFC cards, right? With all the promotion the company did for this, there must have been a lot of first time viewers for this pay-per-view.

I thought showing highlights of some of the UFC’s greatest fights of the past would have served two purposes. For us old time fans it would have been kind of a nice look back on such a historic night and for the new viewers it would have served as a history lesson.

But instead people tuning in for the first time saw Dan Henderson take a vicious cheap shot (which he later admitted was unnecessary and that he did on purpose) on a fallen opponent that was knocked out cold. Then by the end of the night new fight fans must have been questioning whether they were watching UFC or WWE.

I’m sorry but I didn’t get what the UFC was doing here. I know Liddell was in the crowd but I would have liked to hear from a couple of these legends about how far the company has come since they first entered the UFC and things of that nature.

Hey, it was their night. It was a night for the fighters and the sport of MMA. It was a night for the fans. We all deserved more than a few fights. Hell, we will get the exact same thing in a couple of weeks when we buy UFC 101.

And I don’t want to hear it was supposed to be just another pay-per-view. That’s bull. Ask the UFC what its advertising budget was for UFC 100 compared to any other event it’s ever put on. It wasn’t just another night. That’s not how they sold it and that’s not how it was marketed.

It’s funny because leading up to the event the UFC treated 100 like a special event but the night of the card, it was business as usual. I found that extremely odd and very poor judgment on White’s part.

UFC 100 was supposed to be a night that would be forever remembered for much more than just the fights in the Octagon. In the end it was but for all the wrong reasons, thanks to Dan Henderson and Brock Lesnar.

The UFC got its headlines but not the ones it wanted because the company didn’t know how to handle a huge event. People who say Dana White can only take this sport so far can rejoice because he really blew a big opportunity at UFC 100.

White should remember that the next time he promotes something as “the biggest night in the history of the sport,” he should probably at least make it more special than the event he put on a couple of weeks earlier.

I know Dana White doesn’t like to listen to anyone but he may want to start talking to others who have experience running a sports league because as far as outside of the Octagon goes, UFC 100 was a miserable failure.

Lesnar looked right at the Bud Light logo painted in the center of the octagon and announced loud and proud that he would be drinking Coors Light to celebrate his revenge over Mir because Bud Light wasn’t paying him.

The man just doesn’t care.

Following the interview, Goldie announced that the heavyweight championship had been brought to us by Bud Light.

Just as the post fight press conference was set to begin, Brock entered the room with a cold bottle of Bud Lite in tow. He held it up high so Dana White can see it with a Cheshire Cat smile across his face. The UFC President couldn’t help but crack a grin and look down at the podium.

It was fairly obvious Lesnar had been spoken to at some point following his championship victory.

The massive champion faced the press and zipped his fingers across his lips in a gesture that said,”My mouth is shut, and I promise to be on my best behavior.”

The room broke out into laughter.

“BUD LITE!,” exclaimed Lesnar, keeping the devilish grin plastered across his mug the entire time.

“I took a hard knee,” joked Brock as he took a deep chug from his frosty beverage.

It may very well have been the first time a UFC champion has celebrated at a UFC post fight press conference with a cold one, but for some reason with Lesnar, it just made sense.

“I want to apologize to Bud Light,” said Lesnar. “I’m not biased, I drink any beer.

“Tonight I’m drinking Bud Light, all night.”

The $100K bonuses were the highest ever given out in the history of the promotion, with the second highest being $70,000 at UFC 97.

Henderson earned his bonus check with an enormous right hand that left Michael Bisping in an unconscious stupor, Akiyama and Belcher beat each other senseless over three rounds to pick up their “Fight of the Night” honors, and Lawlor’s guillotine choke over C.B.
The most anticipated UFC card in the history of the promotion is officially in the books.

Brock Lesnar became the UFC’s undisputed heavyweight champion at UFC 100 as he laid Frank Mir‘s interim championship to waste under a storm of punches in the second round of their headlining bout.

Lesnar did a great job controlling Mir from the top position for the bulk of the first round while landing solid damaging punches to the face. The hulking heavyweight champ picked up where he left off in the second round before eventually stopping Mir on the canvas with a series of crushing punches to the head as Mir rolled over to his knees.

Georges St. Pierre defended his welterweight title for the third consecutive time as he put on a wrestling clinic in his bout with Thiago Alves en route to being awarded the unanimous decision.

Dan Henderson finished his TUF 9 coach showdown with Michael Bisping with an exclamation mark as he blasted the leader of Team UK with an enormous right hand in the second round that left the Brit unconscious, then dropped the anvil one last time in the form of a big right hand for good measure. Brutal knockout.

Alan Belcher found himself on the short end of what seemed to be a highly questionable decision in his middleweight contest with Yoshihiro “Sexyama” Akiyama.

After getting off to a slow start Belcher turned it up during the second and third rounds where he punished Akiyama with bruising leg kicks and effective aggressiveness. However, when it was all said and done the judges awarded the Japanese superstar with the split decision, with one judge giving it to Akiyama with a score of 30-27.

In what was perhaps the biggest shocker of the night, Mark Coleman pulled the rabbit out of his hat in the form of a unanimous decision win over Stephan Bonnar.

A full list of results from UFC 100 are listed below:

Jon Fitch def. Paulo Thiago via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)

Brock Lesnar def. Frank Mir via TKO – Round 2

Georges St. Pierre def. Thiago Alves via unanimous decision (50-45, 50-44, 50-45)

Dan Henderson def. Michael Bisping via KO – Round 2

Yoshihiro Akiyama def. Alan Belcher via split decision (30-27, 28-29, 29-28)

Mark Coleman def. Stephan Bonnar via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Jim Miller def. Mac Danzig via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Jon Jones def. Jake O’Brien via submission (guillotine choke) – Round 2

Dong Hyun Kim def. T.J. Grant via unanimous decision (30-26, 30-26, 30-26)

Tom Lawlor def. C.B. Dollaway via submission (guillotine choke) – Round 1

Shannon Gugerty def. Matt Grice via submission (guillotine choke) – Round 1

Genetic freak Brock Lesnar will be looking for revenge against the man that holds the lone defeat over his head as he faces off with Frank Mir for the undisputed UFC heavyweight championship.

Georges St.Pierre will be entering one of the most dangerous challenges in his fighting career as he takes on the Brazilian knockout artist Thiago Alves.

Also on the card will be the TUF 9 coach showdown between Dan Henderson and Michael Bisping, Jon Fitch will be looking to avenge his teammate Josh Koscheck’s loss to Paulo Thiago, “Sexyama” Akiyama will be throwing down with the ever-dangerous Alan Belcher and much more.

Come along as I take a closer look at one of the most significant cards in the history of the UFC.

Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir

I’m not making excuses for Lesnar but the fact of the matter is that he just flat out made a rookie mistake in his first fight in the UFC against Frank Mir, and I’m not expecting him to be as careless this time around.

You create your own luck in this sport, and Mir did just that in the first bout between the two as he spun around and caught Lesnar in a leg lock that you normally only get away with during a light grapple, against someone that has no idea that it’s coming. Mir had to be a little surprised with his ability to pull off such a telegraphed maneuver, and I’m sure he knows he will have to be a lot more precise and explosive in this bout with Brock.

He won’t though. For as spectacular as Mir’s submission game is, he has a history of being ground and pounded out by lesser fighters.

People forget that Mir was being groomed as the next UFC heavyweight champ long before his arm snapping victory over Tim Sylvia at UFC 48. He was 4-0, 2-0 with the UFC going into his UFC 38 bout with Ian Freeman. The match-up was widely viewed as a tune-up bout for a future championship match-up but Freeman spoiled those plans in dramatic fashion as he pinned Mir to the canvas and pulverized him with punches in the very first round.

Granted, that was almost exactly seven years ago and a lot has changed since then, but what about the dismal ground and pound defeat at the lanky hands of Márcio “Pé de Pano” Cruz at UFC 57? I understand that the bout was Mir’s first return to action since his devastating motorcycle injury but that doesn’t mean that it never happened.

Of course Mir was clipped by Brandon Vera at UFC 65 just prior to being stopped on the ground with a series of punches, but he was still stopped on the ground with a series of punches. Do you see a pattern developing here?

All three of Mir’s losses have ultimately come by ground and pound.

On paper Lesnar is a terrible match-up for Mir. Massive, incredibly strong, phenomenal wrestler with bone crushing punches from the top position.

However, Lesnar’s only loss in his professional fighting career came to Frank Mir, of course, you can’t completely throw that out the window.

While Mir looked impressive against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in his last bout I firmly believe that that wasn’t the best Nogueira we’ve ever seen. As heavyweight title contender Shane Carwin pointed out recently to FiveOuncesOfPain.com, Nogueira’s head movement was next to non-existent that night. I seriously doubt Brock will give Mir that same readily available target. He may be humongous, but he’s explosive and quick. Shockingly explosive and quick.

There will be no rookie mistakes this time around.

Winner: Brock Lesnar – TKO – Round 1

Georges St. Pierre vs. Thiago Alves

I feel like many give St. Pierre’s loss to Matt Serra entirely too much weight when looking at this welterweight championship match-up. Let’s not forget that the punch that initially left GSP wobbled clipped him directly in the back of the head. Anyone that has done their fair share of sparring will tell you that being hit with a good amount of force to the back of the head has a funny way of messing with your equilibrium.

To St. Pierre’s credit, he stayed conscious as he managed to absorb what seemed like a hundred flush punches to the chin before the bout’s inevitable conclusion.

I honestly feel like GSP has a much better chin than he is given credit for.

However, none of that really matters as I have no expectation of the current welterweight champion exchanging with Alves for any extended period of time. St.Pierre is a smart fighter. Definitely smart enough to understand that Alves has just one way to in this fight. He won’t be given that chance.

Alves has pulverizing leg kicks but they will be completely nullified by the constant threat of a GSP takedown, leaving Alves to try to turn the fight into a boxing match against one of the most well rounded fighters in the sport today.

Alves will be smothered by GSP and left exhausted after a few solid rounds of trying to get back to his feet unsuccessfully.

Winner: Georges St. Pierre – TKO – Round 3

Jon Fitch vs. Paulo Thiago

Not taking anything away from Thiago, but he had no business winning his last bout with Josh Koscheck. As I’ve described earlier, you create your own luck in this sport. He threw a big uppercut, it landed, he created that luck. However,it was luck. Koscheck was beating Thiago upon the feet before he got caught.

Fitch will not make the same mistake Koscheck did. He is among the very best in the welterweight division and I fully expect to show Thiago that he is way out of his league with the big boys in the UFC.

Thiago is a dangerous ground fighter, and the reality is that is all that he is, a dangerous ground fighter. I expect for Fitch to expose him while avoiding any submission attempts while pounding the Brazilian to a pulp as an act of revenge in the name of AKA.

Winner: Jon Fitch – TKO – Round 2

Michael Bisping vs. Dan Henderson

Bisping’s best chance to obtain victory will ultimately be his undoing in this bout.

Trying to play the wrestling game with Henderson is a bad match-up for most and Bisping is no exception to the rule. I expect for him to attempt to out-maneuver Henderson on the feet and pick him apart standing.

Not going to happen, trying to use fancy footwork with Hendo is like playing with fire. Dan possesses one of the most devastating right hands in the business,a tremendously underestimated left hook, and a chin of absolute granite. Henderson has yet to be knocked out in over thirty professional bouts against some of the meanest men on the planet. Bisping will not be the first.

Henderson could very well use his wrestling to win this bout, and just maul his way to victory, I just feel it’s more likely that he catches Bisping with a ridiculously hard punch early on.

Winner: Dan Henderson – KO – Round 1

Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Alan Belcher

I’m just going to come right out and say it; I feel like Akiyama is tremendously overrated and will be completely exposed in his first fight with the UFC.

Sexyama’s most recent wins have come over a couple of unrecognizable fighters with a combined record of 4-8, hardly impressive.

Just prior to those stunning victories Akiyama was pulverized by a soccer kick at the foot of Kazuo Misaki. The bout was later ruled a “no contest” after Akiyama protested that he was still downed upon receiving the kick, but he still got blasted, there’s no going back and changing that.

Outside of that, there’s a knockout victory over Denis Kang in 2007,and a submission win over a horribly one dimensional Melvin Manhoef in 2006.

The Japanese Judo expert is not used to fighting men as large as he will face in the UFC, and Belcher is as big as they get for a middleweight.

Regardless of the size differential, Belcher is a much better striker than Akiyama and he will prove it if given the opportunity, which he will.

Winner: Alan Belcher: KO – Round 1

Stephan Bonnar vs. Mark Coleman

I truly feel like we have seen the last of a competitive Mark Coleman in the UFC and this bout will do nothing more than add an exclamation mark to my opinion.

Coleman has a good chance of scoring a couple of takedowns in this fight but I don’t feel like he will have the stamina and endurance to keep him there.

I expect for “The Hammer” to keep it competitive for a little while, but for him to gas out somewhere around the end of the second where Bonnar will turn it up a notch and overwhelm the UFC Hall of Famer.

Winner: Stephan Bonnar – TKO – Round 2

Mac Danzig vs. Jim Miller

Danzig really needs a win in this one coming off of back to back defeats. His key to victory will be to keep the fight standing and out-strike Miller.

This is one of the most evenly matched fights of the card and either man could come away with the win if they fight their fight.

Miller should have the slight edge in the wrestling department and I expect this one to eventually turn into a grappling match. Tough fight to call.

Winner: Jim Miller – Unanimous Decision

Jon Jones vs. Jake O’Brien

If there was one guy with the tools to knock Jones off his undefeated course in the UFC it could very well be O’Brien.

This fight will tell a lot more about Jones than it will about O’Brien. Will Jones be able to stop the takedowns is the question at hand.

This will be the toughest wrestler he has faced to date. If Jones manages to avoid the takedowns, which I feel he will, he should be able to pick O’Brien apart handily on the feet with his unorthodox and highly effective striking arsenal.

Winner: Jon Jones – TKO – Round 3

C.B. Dollaway vs. Tom Lawlor

Both of these men share many of the similar strengths. The key to this match-up is that both men are strong wrestlers, but Dollaway is a lot more technical and powerful on the mat.

With that being said, I feel like C.B. has a slight edge on the feet as well. Simply put, this is a bad match-up for Lawlor.

I expect for C.B. to drag Lawlor to the canvas and proceed to work him over with a variation of elbows and fists to make it three in a row with the UFC.

Winner: C.B. Dollaway – TKO – Round 1

Matt Grice vs. Shannon Gugerty

Another closely contested match-up. Grice will hold an advantage in the wrestling department while Gugerty is known for his ability to force the tap out.

The difference maker in this fight just boils down to which man will be able to implement their game plan.

I expect for Grice to utilize his wrestling advantage by avoiding the ground with Gugerty as the submission is undoubtedly Shannon’s best chance at victory.

Winner: Matt Grice – Unanimous Decision

T.J. Grant vs. Dong Hyun Kim

Grant will be Hyun Kim’s toughest opponent to date. The Korean had his hands full in his last bout with Parisyan and he will find no sanctuary in an opponent as well rounded and relentless as Grant.

I expect a hard fought battle from both men, I just feel like Hyun Kim will be neutralized in the areas in which he is the strongest. Grant will not play victim to the Judo players top game. Instead he will keep the fight standing as much as possible on his way to the unanimous decision victory.

Winner: T.J. Grant – Unanimous Decision

As previously announced by the Grapplers Quest organization, three submission superfights had been organized for UFC 100 weekend.

The organization announced it’s fourth and final superfight today. It will be between Ultimate Fighter 8 finalist Vinny Magalhaes and Team Minotauro jiu jitsu coach Daniel Valverde.

Grapplers Quest organization made the final announcement through their account on the increasingly popular Twitter social networking site.

The four superfights will be held on the weekend of July 10 and 11 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.

The superfights will be a major staple of the very first UFC fan expo.

Magalhaes and Valverde are both elite Brazilian jit jitsu black belts with a wealth of grappling experience.

Also highlighting the bill of grappling superfights are UFC lightweight Joe Stevenson, WEC veteran Fredson Paxaio, and Japanese MMA legend Rumina Sato.

The bout schedule is as follows:

Friday, July 10 at 2:00pm PST – Vinny Magalhaes vs. Daniel Valver

de, Rumina Sato vs. Ulysses Gomez (multiple-time grappling champion)
Saturday, July 11 at 2:00pm PST – Fredson Paixao vs. Jeff Glover (22-time Grapplers Quest champion), Joe Stevenson vs. Bill Cooper

Magalhaes and Valverde became rival’s on the eighth season of The Ultimate Fighter where Valverde served as one of Antonio Minotauro Nogueira’s coaches. The conflict stems from Magalhaes stating that Nogueria did not possess elite-level grappling skills.

The Grapplers Quest superfights surely add some spice to the already action-packedand the UFC 100 weekend.

Top ranked middleweight and highly regarded Judoka Yoshihiro Akiyama is set to wage his first battle on American soil this Saturday evening at UFC 100 as he faces off with the always dangerous Alan Belcher.

A 2002 Gold Medalist in Judo at the Asian Games, Akiyama will be looking to throw his way to the top of the UFC’s stacked 185 pound weight class.

“What I would like to do is show everyone that Judoka can be successful, even in the UFC,” the native to Osaka, Japan was quoted as saying in a recent video interview on UFC.com.

His opponent Belcher normally walks around near the 220 pound mark and Akiyama is fully aware of the challenges that fighting in the UFC will present.

“I realize that the American fighters are bigger and their techniques are good,” said the thirty three year old veteran of the K-1 Hero’s and DREAM promotions.

You may be a little surprised at the confidence level of Akiyama heading into what could be considered the most pivotal bout of his career. According to him, he’ll just have to wait and see how he fares on Saturday evening.

“Honestly, I’m not sure how successfully my techniques will translate in the UFC, but what I want the fans to see is my heart for the game, and my spirit for the game,” confessed Akiyama.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to fight in the UFC,” concluded the Japanese finishing machine. “Now that I’m here the dream is a reality and I’m looking forward to one day having the championship belt around my waist.”

Frank Mir is a man who has had his past life taken from him by tragedy. He had to give up his belt and was faced with a long road back to his title.

From encountering everything from doctors who said he would never fight again, the tremendous amount of rehab he had to face and overcome, clawing his way back to the top of the UFC’s heavyweight division, to now facing a genetic freak who is at the last step to full redemption.

In the days leading up to his encounter with Brock Lesnar, Mir speaks on the match from a more strategic standpoint.

Mir is counting on one of two things leading into his fight; that he gets rushed near the beginning of the fight like he did last time, or he sees the more conservative approach from Lesnar, like he took with Randy Couture.

“If Brock really comes out and tries to abandon the [training], comes running at me heads over heels and just tries to bullrush me over, I honestly think that’s his best chance,” said Mir in a recent interview on UFC.com.

However, Mir does not have as much faith in Brock’s cardio and muscle endurance as he has in his explosive power.

“I don’t think he’s physically capable of going 5 rounds of hard fighting just because of his stature,”explained Mir.

Adding, “Could he go 3 rounds, or 5 rounds if I fight like Heath and let him dominate me and keep me in great position, well yeah.

“If he told me he was going to stand with me, then yeah, I would stand toe to toe with him and swing. Because I feel I have great head movement. He has no head movement.” He continues, “But all of the sudden he throws a punch, changes levels and shoots on me, that’s gonna be difficult. So that’s why I don’t wanna stand in front of him. No so much for his punches, but his shots.”

Mir seems to be on the right track. So what does he envision happening on July 11th? Frank goes on to lay out how he’s going to win this fight.

“But if I throw 3 or 4 punches and I slide off at an angle, throw another punch, and he shoots, and I’m never where I’m at, that’s going to be very difficult [for Lesnar],” said Mir.

As if Mir’s striking coach Ken Hahn was in his ear, we see how much influence he has on Frank and how energized he has Frank coming into this fight. It seems Frank has just as much confidence in his striking, if not more, than he did for the Nogueira fight.

Mir continues about, what he feels is his biggest asset for this fight, his footwork. “I think now we really see in MMA how much footwork is really a prevailing defense, and offense. It’s more important than slipping or checking punches because footwork helps eliminate shots, it helps eliminate getting kicked and punched in the head. You see some of the greatest fighters in the world right now, and one thing I can point out that they all have, is great footwork.”

We can expect to see Mir bouncing around and looking like a more active version than we saw in his last fight with Big Nog as it seems he is gaining confidence in his striking with every pad session. He has been on the underside of Brock before and we should see him looking to desperately avoid being put there again.

This is the opportunity of Franks life right now as a win on July 11th, in his hometown of Las Vegas, Nevada, would solidify his Champion status and give him that redemption he is so furiously seeking.

Even though UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre has faced some of the toughest men the world has to offer at 170 pounds during the course of his career, the dominant Canadian will be the first to tell you that he expects for his next title defense to be one of the toughest tests he has faced inside of a cage.

St. Pierre is just one week away from UFC 100 where he will meet one of the most dangerous welterweight strikers in the history of the octagon in Thiago Alves.

According to GSP in a recent video interview on UFC.com, the fight is his to lose.

“I have many ways to win that fight,” explained the ultra-confident champion. “I have more tools than he has.

“I’m going to be the one to dictate the pace. I’m going to be the one to control the fight.”

Alves is the most dangerous on his feet, with devastating kicks and heavy hands, but St. Pierre feels confident regardless of where the battle ends up.

“I think I can stand with him, I think I can wrestle with him, I think I can go on the ground with him, I can do everything with him,” said GSP.

Just because the defending champion isn’t overly worried about ultimately exchanging with Alves at some point, he’s no fool, St. Pierre plans on taking the fight where he needs to in order to leave the octagon with his had raised one more time.

“I’m a smart fighter,” said St. Pierre. “I’m going to fight against his weaknesses, not his strengths. The key for me is to win, and to win I’m going to do anything that I can.”

In just over a week twenty five year old Thiago Alves will be in the fight of his life as he takes on Georges St.Pierre at UFC 100 in a welterweight championship match that will validate one man’s claim to being the best fighter on the planet currently competing at 170 pounds.

Seven consecutive wins in the toughest welterweight division in the world have propelled Alves to the title shot he has coming to him next Saturday evening.

His last three bouts have been a progression of impressiveness as he knocked Karo Parisyan out of contender status at UFC Fight Night 13, pulverized Matt Hughes at UFC 85, and made Josh Koscheck look terrible at UFC 90.

The string of recent success in the octagon make it no mystery as to why the phenom from the American Top Team is feeling close to invincible heading into UFC 100.

“I don’t think [GSP] has any advantage in this fight,” said the abundantly confident Alves in a recent video interview on UFC.com. “The only advantage he has is that he has the belt and a bigger name.”

As far as the game plan goes for the most pivotal bout in the dangerous Brazilian’s career, it’s just going to be business as usual for Alves once the cage door slams shut.

“You want to take me to the ground? I’m going to get back up and I’m going to kick your ass as soon as you make a mistake,” the feared striker explained calmly.

“When that cage closes,I’m going to shock the world,” promised Alves. “I’m going to take the best pound for pound fighter and I’m going to knock him out, so don’t blink.”

The UFC has confirmed a slew of bouts for UFC 100 including Jon Fitch vs. Paulo Thiago, Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Alan Belcher, Mark Coleman vs. Stephan Bonnar, Mac Danzig vs. Jim Miller, Jon Jones vs. Jake O’Brien, Dong Hyun Kim vs. Jonathan Goulet, CB Dollaway vs. Tom Lawlor and Matt Grice vs. Shannon Gugerty.

UFC 100 is set for July 11 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada and will air live on Pay-Per-View.

Fitch will be looking to improve upon his recent win over Akihiro Gono as he faces off with Thiago who shook up the welterweight division by stopping Josh Koscheck in the Brazilian’s UFC debut.

Akiyama is set to make his highly anticipated UFC debut when he faces Belcher who is coming off of an impressive guillotine submission over Dennis Kang.

Coleman will be looking to get back in the UFC’s win column after a recent TKO loss at the hands of Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in his announced bout with Bonnar who was last seen on a losing end of a decision to Jon Jones at UFC 94.

Danzig desperately needs a victory after consecutive losses in the octagon when he throws down with Miller who is coming back from a loss of his own to Gray Maynard.

Undefeated Jon Jones will be gunning to make it three straight with the UFC when he takes on O’Brien who recently got back on the winning side of things after two straight losses with a split decision victory over Christian Wellisch at UFC 94.

Hyun Kim is coming back from his no contest ruling in his bout with Karo Parisyan at UFC 94. Originally ruled a decision victory in Parisyan’s favor, the ruling was overturned when it was learned that Parisyan tested positive for multiple painkillers. His opponent Goulet is looking to redeem himself following a “Quick” TKO loss to Mike Swick in December 0f 2008.

Dollaway hopes to keep his winning streak intact with the UFC and make it three in a row when he meets TUF 8 veteran Lawlor who is returning from a win over Kyle Kingsbury at the TUF 8 Finale.

Grice critically needs a win with a 1-2 record in the UFC going into his bout with Gugerty who was submitted by Spencer Fisher in his last bout for the UFC.

A full list of the bouts expected for UFC 100 are listed below:

Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir

Georges St. Pierre vs. Thiago Alves

Dan Henderson vs. Michael Bisping

Jon Fitch vs. Paulo Thiago

Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Alan Belcher

Stephan Bonnar vs. Mark Coleman

Jim Miller vs. Mac Danzig

Dong Hyun Kim vs. Jonathan Goulet

Jon Jones vs. Jake O’Brien

A lightweight showdown between two fighters on the rebound is expected for UFC 100. Mac Danzig will face off with Jim Miller at the event which takes place on July 11th at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

The bout was previously confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the fight.

Both men will be looking to bounce back from recent defeats in the octagon in a match-up where the loser could very likely be sent on a short vacation from the UFC.

Danzig put together two victories in the UFC after being crowned the winner of the sixth season of The Ultimate Fighter, but has fallen short in his last two trips to the cage against Clay Guida, and most recently Josh Neer in February. The twenty nine year old Xtreme Couture fighter finds his back against the wall at UFC 100 as a third consecutive loss would make his future in the UFC extremely questionable.

Miller has gone 2-1 since he joined the UFC in the latter portion of 2008 with wins over David Baron and Matt Wiman before falling short in his third trip to the octagon against the highly rated Gray Maynard. Miller’s only other loss in his fifteen fight career came at the hands of Frankie Edgar in November of 2006.

A full list of the expected bouts for UFC 100 are below.

Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir
Georges St. Pierre vs. Thiago Alves
Dan Henderson vs. Michael Bisping
Mark Coleman vs. Stephan Bonnar
Jon Fitch vs. Paulo Thiago
Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Alan Belcher
Dong Hyun Kim vs. Jonathan Goulet
Mac Danzig vs. Jim Miller
Jon Jones vs. Jake O’Brien
CB Dollaway vs. Tom Lawlor
Matt Grice vs. Shannon Gugerty

The Ultimate Fighter season seven finalist CB Dollaway will be looking to continue with his winning ways in the octagon when he faces off with a fellow TUF veteran, Tom Lawlor from season eight in a 205 pound showdown.

The last bout recently made public for UFC 100 is a lightweight contest between Matt Grice and Shannon Gugerty in what would seem to be a “loser leaves the UFC match”.

Former UFC and Pride FC heavyweight champion, Mark Coleman, is all set to face off with The Ultimate Fighter season one runner up, Stephan Bonnar, at UFC 100.

UFC 100 is scheduled to take place on July 11th from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Both men recently suffered defeats after trying to rebound after extended layoffs, and this bout will undoubtedly be a must win situation for both fighters.

Coleman took a two year hiatus after suffering an armbar loss to Fedor Emelianenko at Pride 32 in October of 2006. The UFC’s first ever heavyweight champion recently made the drop down to 205 pounds when he returned to the octagon where he suffered a disappointing knockout loss to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in the third round of their bout that took place in January of this year.

Bonnar’s most current appearance in the UFC saw him dropping a hard fought decision to the up and coming Jon Jones at UFC 94. His previous fight was a win a TKO victory over Eric “Red” Schafer, but that fight took place way back at UFC 77 in October of 2007.
