UFC President Dana White has some, um, opinions when it comes to who’s the best pound-for-pound fighter in MMA. After spending a few moments slamming the media for anointing Jose Aldo as the best in the game, White went on to support his argument with what can only be called a Box Office Defense.

White, who’s spent the last few months dogging Anderson Silva for failing to deliver exciting fights for the fans, is now attacking those same “fanboys” for hopping off the Silva bandwagon when it comes to selecting their top P4P choice.

“Are you f***king nuts? Potential future pound-for-pound king? Anderson Silva hasn’t lost since 2006. He’s never lost in the UFC.” White said. “Anderson Silva is a pain in my ass. This isn’t Chuck Liddell, we aren’t best friends. But you can’t deny what the man has done.”

White went on to defend Silva’s record in the strongest terms while simultaneously baiting the very media that line his pockets. Not content to stop there, White offered his own list for consideration, and you may well be stunned at the fighters who made – and didn’t make – the Dana White Hot List.

“You media geeks need to learn the fight biz,” White said. “I’m at dinner right now, but you’re really pissing me off. Silva hasn’t lost in the UFC. The guy has not only cleared out his division, he’s gone up to 205 and beaten a guy like Forrest Griffin, who beat Rampage Jackson and Shogun Rua. Frankie Edgar is right there too. I might actually put him at No. 2. This guy is for real. He beat BJ Penn twice, and kicked his ass in their last fight,” White said. “I love and respect Manny Gamburyan, but he’s no BJ Penn. And the only thing keeping St. Pierre out of the Top 3 is a loss to Matt Serra.”

GSP is off the list? What, no Brock Lesnar man-love?

One question for the Majordomo; what happened to Benson Henderson in all this ranting? A couple of months ago, White was castigating the media for not installing Henderson in the top ten (a placement which would be hard to argue against) while at the same moment calling such lists irrelevant.

I suppose White can be forgiven for getting hacked. Chicken a la King demands a man’s full attention to be fully and completely savored…

The responsibilities for this position include:

Managing all aspects of distribution, production, operations and account management of mixed martial arts video content to Japanese based media outlets. Manage content selection and metadata creation, oversee editing, promo production, encoding, distribution and reporting of digital assets. Must be fluent in English and Japanese with excellent verbal and written communication skills in both languages. BA or BS required with a minimum of three years work experience in the field of New Media. Job can be based in Las Vegas or Los Angeles with frequent travel to Japan.

One can assume Zuffa is taking steps to improve its market position in Japan, after the disaster that was the PRIDE takeover. This would be the first step in a long road to winning over the Japanese market. Zuffa currently has a footprint in the UK and building presence in Mexico.

The Fight Network has the scoop:

The long speculated moratorium of the International Fight League now has a date. According to IFL senior vice president of communications Joe Favorito, the team-based MMA promotion will turn out the lights July 31 as its assets are sold to a yet-to-be-named buyer, confirmed today by several anonymous sources as the UFC ownership group Zuffa LLC.

“As of July 31 my role at the IFL will be no more as the company goes into its final stage of being sold and/or closed down,” Favorito stated via email.

This would make a lot of sense seeing as how the UFC has signed a handful of the IFL’s more talented fighters in recent weeks such as Rory Markham, Brad Blackburn, Jim and Dan Miller, and Andre Gusmao. I’m sure we can expect to see even more IFL talent roll into the UFC now. Guys like Jay Hieron, Chris Horodecki, and Wagnney Fabiano, to name a few, are all people that fans would love to see in the UFC. It also makes sense because on Monday, the IFL’s stock skyrocketed. They also showed a lot of IFL footage during the UFC Fight Night 14 show as well as the UFC Countdown: Silva vs. Irvin buildup show.

It’s a sad day for the IFL, but we all knew the end was drawing nearer day by day. They put on a good product, but came out of the gates all wrong and by the time they realized that drastic changes needed to be made it was too little, too late. They tried to treat the sport like a sport and not a spectacle and that’s to be commended. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work, at least not yet. One thing I can say, however, is that I won’t lose sleep over never being able to see the hexagon shaped ring in action.

Sherdog has a great piece up detailing some of the things that were said at the DREAM 3 post-fight press conference. Namely, Nick Diaz said he would rather be fighting Shinya Aoki next instead of Hayato Sakurai and Jason “Mayhem” Miller said that he would love a shot at his hero, Kazushi Sakuraba.

Nick Diaz on Aoki:

“You know, there’s a lot of other people I’d like to fight, just considering Mach Sakurai is a lot older than I am,” Diaz said. “He’s probably in his late 30s I’d imagine, so I’m going to have a lot of respect for him and everything he’s done. I tend to do better with people I have less respect for. To be honest, I’d rather be fighting Shinya Aoki or Kawajiri — somebody other than the guy that got knocked out by someone I already beat [Gomi].

“I know the only way to win is not care to win or lose,” he said. “That’s why I’m not afraid of anybody and why I want to fight the best. I think Shinya Aoki is the best fighter here. I want to fight this guy — I think I can beat him.

Jason “Mayhem” Miller on Sakuraba:

“My biggest dream ever was to fight Sakuraba,” Miller said. “He was my hero growing up. I’m lucky that in my business, I’m allowed to beat my heroes up in the same way I beat my dad up now.

“Sakuraba is my hero, and the prospect of being able to fight my hero is huge. It’s my dream, and hopefully I can accomplish my dream here. I’m happy that we’re in the tournament at the same time. No matter who they put in front of me, I want to defeat them in the most exciting manner possible. I’ve never seen Sakuraba tap out.”

Results from the Sept. 17 K-1 HERO’s card from the Yokohama Arena in Kanagawa, Japan are making the rounds on various Internet sites.

The results are as follows:

- Takenori Sato defeated Kenji Nagai via armbar submission at 2:40 of round 1 in the opening bout.

- Kazuyuki Miyata defeated Harvey Harra via armbar submission at 1:13 round 1 in a middleweight tournament reserve bout.

- Andre Dida won a two round unanimous decision over Caol Uno in a HERO’s middleweight tournament semifinal.

- In the other middleweight tournament semifinal, Gesias “JZ” Calvancanti recorded a TKO (referee stoppage) at 0:35 on round 1 over Vitor “Shaolin” Ribeiro. JZ is no joke and I’d love to see him fighting in the States.

- Ikuhisa Minowa TKO’d Kevin Casey via strikes at 0:42 of round 2

- Dong Sik Yoon submitted Zelg Galesic with an armbar at 1:29 of round 1. I believe that’s two straight losses for “Mini Cro Cop.”

- Melvin Manhoef TKO’d Fabio Silva via strikes at 1:00 of round 1. Might we see a future showdown between Manhoef vs. Denis Kang?

- Sergei Kharitonov TKO’d Alistair Overeem at 4:21 of round 1.

- Kazushi Sakuraba submitted Katsuyori Shibata with an armbar at 6:20 of round 1. Thank god Sakuraba didn’t face Kang.

- Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto made his long-awaited return to MMA and recorded a unanimous three-round decision victory over Bibiano Fernandes. It’s good to have Kid back on the scene. It’s a shame North American fight fans don’t get a chance to see him on a regular basis.

- In the middleweight tournament final, Gesias “JZ” Calvancanti submitted Andre Dida via armbar in the first round.

Just when you thought Dynamite USA!! couldn’t get any worse, now comes word from Josh Gross of Sherdog.com that Royce Gracie has tested positive for Nandrolone, a commonly used anabolic steroid.

The test result came after Gracie’s decision victory over Kazushi Sakuraba on June 2 at the LA Coliseum.

The California State Athletic Commission has suspended Gracie from June 2, 2007 through May 30, 2007 and fined him $2,500. Both are maximums. He has 30 days to appeal.

I also believe there’s a chance his victory could either be ruled a no contest, or even overturned.

Update: Apparently CSAC doesn’t have the ability to overturn decisions in California (thanks, reader Mike DeGeorge). So I guess cheaters can prosper?
