Of course we learned something from the Fitch & Kampmann fights — we learned that if Johny touches your chin you’re probably going out, and that he’s capable of doing it to the upper tier talent of the WW division.

GSP is arguably the most complete fighter on the planet. Of course he’ll again be the favorite to successfully defend his title, but I don’t agree that he’s fought anybody like Hendricks. The only other wrestler-turned-striker I can think of would be Koscheck but that’s a lazy comparison because their striking isn’t all that similar. Whereas Kos’ striking consists of hanging on the outside and throwing wild looping shots, Johny has more compact punches that are sneaky quick & obviously carry big power behind them. And he’s much more adept at dirty boxing when the action is in tight.

Hendricks has been the clear-cut #1 contender for a long time now, having done more than enough to earn a title shot. For me this is the most intriguing matchup possible for GSP’s next fight, other than perhaps Silva.

I’m not giddy about it either, hendricks constantly says that GSP hasn’t fought a guy like him, but GSP has fought, and beat plenty of wrestlers turned strikers before.

I feel like a minority here, but I’m just not giddy about Hendricks. I wasn’t really a fan while he was coming up, I wasn’t impressed with the Fitch fight (because we didn’t really learn anything), nor the Kampmann fight. I kept saying “If he does well against Condit I’ll give him props” but after that fight I feel even stronger that he’s not the guy. Maybe it’s just me refusing to jump on the bandwagon, or maybe I’m prejudice… but this fight simply does not excite me.

This is the 4th time Porn Machine is supposed to make his Bellator debut. Not sure how the hell he’s back so soon from a broken leg and torn ACL, but maybe he’ll actually make it into the cage tonight.

Yeah, and lots of pitchers threw harder than Greg Maddux, lots of wide receivers run faster than Jerry Rice, lots of basketball players jumped higher than Larry Bird.

The comments that pop up from time to time about Cain’s supposed lack of power are just silly. It’s largely a matter of technique. Cain doesn’t load up and try to finish guys with a single punch, and yet he’s been able to overwhelm guys like JDS, Big Foot, Brock, Nog & Rothwell with his striking. He’s a well-rounded fighter who uses kicks/punches/elbows in conjunction with his strong takedowns and ground-and-pound. His overall dynamic attack is far superior to guys who might happen to hit harder.

Cain kicked JDS’ ass for 25 minutes, took his belt, and put him in the hospital. I have to think these comments from JDS were mostly in jest as part of a radio bit, rather than some sort of critical assessment on his part.
